GIANTS OF THE OCEAN
High-quality giclée art prints based on an original cyanotype artwork by artist Inga Lisa Middleton
Giants of the Ocean brings together art, ocean, and conservation in a collection of five fine art giclée prints created from original cyanotypes by Inga Lisa Middleton. Made with museum-quality, fade-resistant pigment inks for longevity. Printed on 310gsm Hahnemühle German Etching paper; a premium, heavyweight fine art paper with a velvety matte surface and warm white tone.
Cyanotypes are made using one of photography’s earliest and most sustainable techniques. Invented in 1842 by scientist John Herschel, the cyanotype process uses light-sensitive iron salts, water, and sunlight to create deep blue images that echo the ocean’s depths.
The source photograph of the whales is generously shared by renowned underwater photographer Karim Iliya.
50% of the proceeds from sale of this print support two ocean organizations:
Hvalavinir who fight for a ban on whaling in Iceland, the protection of whales within Icelandic waters, and the conservation of the North Atlantic Ocean.
Kogia, a nonprofit media library and creative studio dedicated to protecting marine life through free access to imagery and impact-driven storytelling. Karim Iliya is one of their founders and an active contributor.
About the artist:
Inga Lisa Middleton is an Icelandic-British photographer whose work explores the intersection of art, nature, and ecology through historical photographic processes and poetic imagery.
Whales are critical to the ocean’s ecosystem: they fertilize, regulate, and sustain marine life while also helping to fight climate change. This series of five whale prints, was created to honor their vital role in the sea and to remind us of the deep connection between their survival and our own.
